The Greatest Food Fight of All Time by JL Nesvold
Tucker O’Connell is not thrilled at the prospect of sixth grade. He arrives on the first day at John Quincy Adams Elementary feeling a little lost and somewhat hopeless. His troubles are lessened a bit when his best friend since kindergarten, Derek Burns shows up in his new class, but the trio are not complete because Kyle Smith isn't with them. The boys get together at lunch, discussing the end of their reign over the elementary school and apprehension about becoming the small fish in junior high next year. During a What-If discussion, Derek off-handedly remarks that if the teachers somehow were all locked out of the lunchroom, he would launch the greatest food fight ever. A strange coincidence occurs leaving the lunchroom full of kids with not one single teacher around. Unable to resist the pull of becoming a legend, Derek jerry-rigs the doors so they can’t be opened from the outside. They devise a plan, and the fight is launched. Innocent kindergarteners, second graders, fourth graders, and sixth graders are involved, and the lives of hundreds of tater tots, pounds of pudding and corn and gallons of milk are lost in a cafeteria-encompassing war. One group of sixth graders, led by Tucker, Derek, and Kyle (the TDK Connection), leads a charge against another, led by Tucker’s arch-nemesis, Eliot McCann. This is a fun, quick read for kids of all ages.
